Anal Skin Tags (Colorectal polyps)

Polyps in the rectal area are commonly found during standard screening exams of the colon (colonoscopy). This exam assesses the health of your colon and rectal area, which is the bottom section of your colon.

Our staff are highly trained in Dr. Chen Guoyi’s methods to treat some of the most common anorectal diseases and we have treated thousands of patients across China and Canada since our first clinic opened in 1979.

What are anal skin tags

Anal skin tags or colorectal polyps are abnormal growths that begin inside the lining of the colon or rectum. While some are flat, others have a stalk and may look like a cauliflower.

Because most polyps grow in the rectal area, they can have severe complications on your health if they are not monitored. Polyps can continue to grow and certain types of may even be precancerous. If you have polyps in your rectal region, having them removed reduces your risk for colorectal cancer.

Anal Skin Tags symptoms

You may not feel or have any symptoms of colorectal polyps unless they are large. Therefore it is imperative to screen for polyps and cancer in the colon and rectal regions. If you have any of these symptoms, get checked immediately:

  • Blood in the stool
  • Excess mucus when you use the washroom
  • A change in frequency of bowel habits
  • Pain in your abdomen

Anal Skin Tags treatment

If colorectal polyps are found during a colonoscopy, your doctor will likely advise you to have them removed. There is no way to determine if a polyp will become cancerous. Nearly all polyps can be eliminated during your colonoscopy.

However, if you have large polyps, it may require more than one treatment or possible surgery. Once you have been treated for colorectal polyps, your doctor will monitor and advise for follow-up testing three to five years after removal, as 30 percent of patients may develop new polyps after removal. You will also be advised of any medications or aftercare following the polyps removal procedure.
